This research is aimed at designing smart clothing for 3 age groups of Down syndrome users to do catwalk show in March 2018. The three smart clothing have customized in pattern-making and garment construction for age of 12, 22 and 32 Down syndrome males of Down Syndrome Foundation Republic of China in Taiwan. This study takes smart clothing as an intermediate tool to monitor the Down syndromes’ actives ether life and sports issues, via sportswear, electronic devises and its mobile application, including electronical safety control of temperature, location detection, fall down detection, SOS alert and pedometer. It offers their parents and caretakers to establish a self-take care life style to train these Down syndromes via smart clothing.

The research has utilized qualitative methods to investigate on the smart clothing design, including interview, observation, problem-based leaning of garment design, hands on method to construct garment, testing the garments in life activities and refine the smart clothing garment design by users’ evaluations. This study adopts wearable technology and fashion design procedure to simplify a conceptual sample onto fashion show.

The method solves the problems of lack of smart clothing for Down syndrome users. Especially, their body parameters for pattern-making are unique. By developing garment design, the size and the variation measurement details, these three smart clothing have high degree of fitting, garment variation for functional fabric, clothing capability and reliability to assist the users to .

In summation, this study focus on developing smart clothing design method for three age groups of Down syndrome users to do self-care training. It also demonstrated that wearing smart clothing is able to help to Down syndrome’s to maintain good life quality and safety.
